Germany has made it clear: advancing recognition of Palestinian statehood right now would undermine efforts toward peace. After meeting with Prime Minister Carney, Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Germany does not consider the conditions for recognition to be fulfilled at this time. He’s right. “Canada knows this. We will not join this initiative. We don’t see the requirements met.”
It will not bring home the hostages, end Hamas’ control of Gaza, or improve the humanitarian situation for Palestinians. Instead, it risks rewarding terrorism and weakening the path to a lasting peace. That’s why we are calling on the Government of Canada to change course — and we need your voice to help send that message loud and clear.
